Noto, The Baroque Jewel of Sicily is the Base for Soul of Sicily programs
Noto is the most stunning Baroque town in Sicily (a UNESCO World Heritage site) – full of sandstone churches, piazzas and sculptures. The charm of Noto is complemented by her pristine beaches, Mediterranean sea, ancient ruins and countryside... all just minutes away.
"I chose Noto as the base for my culinary programs over a decade ago, and did that based on research and intuition. The more I dug into the pastries, food, wine and agriculture, the more I sensed that culinary traditions in this little corner of Sicily are rooted in a love for the land here." ~Renée Restivo
The landscape here is unlike any other in Italy, and the agricultural traditions of Noto include production of sweet almonds, lemons, oranges, olives and grapes on small farms.
Soul of Sicily cooking programs and culinary tours are based in the province of Siracusa, which is the South Eastern most of nine provinces on the island and in our opinion, the most diverse gastronomically since we are in a location where there are mountains, ancient fishing villages, farms and hill towns. This is the perfect base for touring Southeastern Sicily, as we are twenty minutes from Siracusa, less than an hour from Ragusa and Modica and about an hour and a half from Catania and Etna.
