Renée's essay about Sicily was part of a collaborative cover feature for the roots issue of National Geographic Traveler. A few years ago, Renée told the story (about her trip to her cousin's farm in Agrigento) to group of travelers in Italy while enjoying a long lunch of pasta, seafood and wine. A few months later, she was invited by National Geographic Traveler magazine to write the story up as a personal essay. Here's the link the original article "Going Home to Sicily," which was later expanded into the Italy chapter of the book Journeys Home.
Listen to Renée tell her story on Native Traveler's Sicily Show, recorded in September of 2017. On the show, Renée had the pleasure of being a feature contributor, sharing the story of reclaiming her Sicilian roots and revealing food as a window to myriad layers of Sicilian heritage.
Renée is finishing her first book about her work and travels in Sicily now. Check out her food & travel photography at Renée's Instagram Page.
