The 4-Star Boutique Hotel

Charm & Relax at a restored Masseria in Val di Noto
Soul of Sicily offers a range of accomodations for our culinary tours and cooking programs, from 3 star, family run Bed & Breakfasts to a charming four star, boutique hotels nestled in the dramatic landscape of ancient olive groves overlooking the best views of the Mediterranean sea and lemon groves. When you book your tour please inquire about details for your accommodations. Recent writers have called this mythical landscape the last real Italy. Surrounded by the untouched oasis of Vendicari nature reserve and landscapes filled with history like the ruins of the ancient Greek city of Eloro and the Roman Villa Tellaro, the carefully restored Sicilian masseria is a place of refined hospitality where it is still possible to discover an authentic Sicilian atmosphere in a warm and familiar climate. Our friendly English-speaking Sicilian staff will make you feel at home at this Mediterranean oasis.

Upon your request, we can upgrade you to stay in a 4 star boutique hotel (see photos in gallery below) for an additional fee. Thanks to a detailed renovation, this typical Sicilian country house of the 19th century has been rebuilt using valuable materials like the white stone of Noto, the Sicilian craft-made terracotta floor, the sandstone of Syracuse and the old terracotta tiles for the roofs, realizing the revival of an old-style charming place.

Today, the restored masseria is surrounded by about 300 olive trees, some of which are believed to be over 600 years old. There are 100 Sicilian almond trees and Renee recently discovered that one of the oldest almond trees in Sicily grows here. There are over 60 lemon and orange trees, pomegranate trees, carob trees, herbs and many varieties of wild capers, making The Masseria a true culinary paradise and an ideal place to come for a culinary tour or cooking lessons, since Sicilian cooking is so deeply connected to the landscape and its local products.

The Story of the Old Masseria

After returning to this exclusive location with her groups for several years, Renee discovered that for hundreds of years this was one of the most beautiful working farms on the island. The hotel is a careful restoration of an old masseria that was once one of the largest working farms of Noto.

When the owners found the masseria it was crumbling apart and in ruins, but a half a century ago, it was one of the most beautiful farms, where fresh ricotta was made, honey was produced and more. Almonds were harvested and almond oil was produced from the many almond trees at the masseria, and grain and fava beans were grown here (and still are today). In the palmento, where we serve breakfast now, olive oil was fresh pressed and local wine was produced.
